How often should a septic tank be pumped in Ontario?
Most Ontario households land somewhere between every three and five years. The real answer depends on how many people are in the house and how big the tank is — a small tank with a full family may need it every two years, while two people on a large tank can go considerably longer. Does Gribb Septic install septic systems?
Yes. Alongside pumping, Gribb Septic installs new septic systems and replaces systems that have reached the end of their life. We also handle repairs — baffle repair, lid and riser replacement, and outdoor plumbing repairs. If your system is failing rather than just full, give us a call and we'll come look at it.

What's the difference between a septic tank and a holding tank?
A septic tank separates the solids and sends liquid out to a leaching bed, so it only needs pumping every few years. A holding tank has no outlet at all — everything stays put, so it has to be pumped on a regular schedule, sometimes every few weeks. If you're not sure which you have, we can tell you when we're on site.
Do I need to be home when you pump the tank?
Usually not. As long as the truck can get close enough and the lids are accessible, we can pump while you're at work or away from the cottage. We'll let you know afterward what we found and how the tank looked.
Do you pump in the winter?
Yes, we run year round across Kingston and Frontenac. In winter, the one thing that helps most is clearing snow off the driveway and the ground over your tank lids before we arrive so we can get in safely and find the lids without digging.
How much does it cost to pump a septic tank?
It depends on tank size, how full it is, how far we travel and how easy the lids are to reach. Call with your address and rough tank size and we'll give you a straight price on the phone — no surprises when the truck shows up.
